Your laughing eyes drew me in
The deepest blue I’d ever seen
I grinned and took your hand in mine
We talked all night, telling tales, drinking wine

Said we’d marry in the spring
Red roses, a white gold ring
No one to walk you down the aisle
Cause your daddy’s long gone though you think of him sometimes

I brought you home and you settled in
My velvet rose with the sweet perfume
Before too long it was planting time again
I locked the door and shed my skin
A ruby rose to add to my collection
I thought you’d scream when I cut you down
But you just lay there on the ground, disbelieving
Buried you next to the one before
Your lifeless eyes not laughing anymore

I packed my bag and souvenirs
Knowing I’ll be coming back next year
Gazing at the winding trail where thorny blooms will thrive
It’s yellow roses and a pink gold band
